Our story

A Breton pastry shop that became Chenonceaux’s table

  1. Chapter I

    1947

    A pastry chef from Lorient

After his hometown was bombed, Mr Girault, a pastry chef from Lorient in Brittany, settled in the Loire Valley. In Chenonceaux he opened “Au Gâteau Breton”, a pastry shop and tea room he ran for over twenty years.

  2. Chapter II

    40 years

    A family affair

The Herembert family took over and, from father to son, turned it into a traditional restaurant for more than forty years.

  3. Chapter III

    Today

    O’GB, Nicolas & Teddy

Philippe Herembert handed over to Nicolas, the chef, and Teddy, friends in the trade for over ten years. Their menu: local produce, everything home-made, and a genuine love of hosting.

“Of all the arts, the culinary art is the one that best feeds its man.”
— Pierre Dac, French humorist
